2024.10.08

WORDS Gallery presents a new exhibition #04 EXTRA “Plastic Coast” from October 9th (Wed) to October 22nd (Tue), 2024. The gallery is known for its dedication to art and environmental issues, and they will host this exhibition at corner of “GRAND PATIO” on the 1st floor in Tamagawa Takashimaya, one of the biggest department store chains in Japan.

This exhibition is a follow-up exhibition from the one held in last March, adding a new artist and new artworks. It focuses on how plastic and fishing debris are exacerbating marine pollution, and how they are affecting on the island coast of Japan. The gallery partnered with Tsushima City in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of the most plastic contaminated islands, to provide the current situations that are often unreported and unnoticed. Some of the artists incorporated marine debris provided by Tsushima city for this project.

The new artist participated in this exhibition is Dillon Froelich from Los Angeles, USA, and four others are Keeenue, Hikaru Matsubara, Yufi Yamamoto, and Pimlico Arts Japan. They all have connections to the ocean in their personal lives, which led to their participation in this exhibition. The artworks are available from WORDS Gallery Online Store (https://store.words-gallery.com/) and 10% of the sales will be donated to Tsushima City for the removal of marine debris.
